Altar Decor...

Bear with me...I'm not that talented, I did this on Paint.

Here's what I am thinking for altar decor. Since we are not using the traditional Indian mandap, I wanted the decorations to be inspired by it. With that in mind, what I am thinking of is two 8ft. poles on either side, bridged by a 6 ft pole. Each pole will be draped with fabric- hopefully red or gold, but if I have to use ivory or white, so be it. framing the back would be strings of flowers in varying colors/shades of red/ivory. Two columns will be on either side of the isle and on top I'm thinking of vases with branches filled with red crystals (similar to the centerpieces) with flower petals around the base. In the front, and center of the stringed flowers will be a small column table with petals surrounding the base. This will be used during the ceremony.
....and the power just cut off... be back to finish later.

So, below is my rendition of what I think it will look like...we'll see how it turns out!

Ugh...

I must say that I was not happy to come to my blog and find that I had to pick a new background. Oh well! This is what I have for now. But it will be changing- hopefully by this week.

Anyway... today we did lots of wedding shopping. We found these cute gift boxes and while we already bought some boxes, these were just so much cuter!

And I found these tea light holders and elephant that is giving me inspiration for the place card table...

Trip #2 to Miami = Success

So this is the boy's and my second trip back to Miami to do wedding planning. Our goal was to not come down more than twice and I think we managed to do it! This trip we managed to pick our wedding cake, secure hotel blocks, finalize bridesmaids dresses, and consult with the hair stylist.

Wedding Cake:
We choose our cake, not from Divine Delicacies as was originally planned (they are The Knot's pick a couple years running), but from the Moulin Rouge Bakery. It is a much smaller, local shop (so small they don't even have a website that I can share), but the cake is amazing. My mom first told me about this place after having a slice of cake that my dad's coworkers brought in. After talking with Jo-Anna (baker who is amazing!) and going through a cake testing Sonny and I settled on marble with a custard filling for the largest tier, then amaretto w/ a amaretto filling fr the second tier and then a rum cake with an orange rum filling.

BOTTOM LINE: This place is amazing. It have a lovely vibe and everything they make tastes, looks, and smells fab!! The price is beyond reasonable and the people are wonderful.

In a TiZzY

I hate feeling rushed. I like to plan (for the most part) and I don't like leaving things to the utmost last minute, which is why last night was horrible.

After picking the boy up from school (7:30 p.m.), I was starving and I had to pick up a birthday gift for my sister, so we went to the mall. Two bird- one stone.

I managed to get Kershni's gift at the first store I went into. Then off the Cajun Cafe for a cheap and quick dinner.

By the time we came home it was 9 p.m.. Then I had to cut the boy's hair and afterwards I had to start packing. Then we had to do inventory of everything that needed to be taken to Miami for the wedding, since this would be our only chance.

We were finally done by 11 p.m. Then the boy had to start writing his paper on HIV and I started to clean the apartment. (I hate travelling and then coming home to a dirty place.)

At 11:45 p.m., after all was settled down, I relaxed and watched the last 45 minutes that I managed to record of So You Think You Can Dance.

I headed to bed a little after midnight and was awaken by the boy around 2 a.m. when he came to bed (he finally finished his paper!) Somehow I managed to get back to sleep around 2:30/45. And I was back up at 6:45.

Now I am wrapping stuff up at work and then heading out after lunch to pack the rest of teh car up and begin the 8 1/2 hr. drive to Homestead. Fun.
